Privacy Policy

Information we collect

Account information. When you register we collect your email address, password (stored as a secure hash), and optional display name and profile image. If you sign in with Google or X, we receive the identifiers and profile fields those providers share with us for authentication.

Content you post. Notes, comments, likes, and any images or links you submit are stored so the community can read and interact with them.

Technical data. We automatically receive standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and timestamps. We may use cookies or similar storage for session authentication and appearance preferences (for example light/dark mode).

Communications. If you email hello@ or support@, we keep that correspondence as needed to respond.

How we use information

We use information to operate the site (accounts, posts, comments, likes), secure the service, prevent abuse, respond to support, improve reliability, and comply with law when required.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your content to train third-party AI models as a product feature of this site.

Sharing

We share information only when you choose to make content public on the site; when a service provider processes data for us under contract (hosting, database, authentication, email delivery); when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the service; or in connection with a merger, sale, or transfer of assets, with notice where appropriate.

Retention

Account and content data are kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward if needed for backups, dispute resolution, or legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account by contacting support@root-cellar.com. Some residual copies may remain in backups for a limited time.

Your choices (California and general)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, and to object to certain processing. Email support@root-cellar.com with the subject line “Privacy request.” We will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) where it applies.

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Security, children, and changes

We use industry-standard measures such as HTTPS, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

The Root Cellar is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact support@root-cellar.com.

We may update this policy. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
